Ayleeza approaches her choreography, as she lives her life, a multitude of emotional expressions of her soul, dance filled with spiritual and sensual movement.
Her dance training began in 1993, first studying with Zohar, and in later years with Aszmara, Elisheva of Belly Queen and Sarah Jezebel.
In 2000, Ayleeza joined the renaissance circuit presenting shows at the N.Y. Stockwood Ren. Faire, King Richard’s Faire in Carver, MA., Endless Mountain Faire in PA. and N.Y.C. Fort Tryon Medieval Festival.
In 2001, Ayleeza met dance partner, drummer and husband Julian. They have co-written, produced and performed in “The Joining” a spiritual belly dance play held in venues such as The Depot Theatre in Garrison, NY, Cunneen-Hackett Theatre, Poughkeepsie, NY and the Krain Theatre in N.Y.C. In 2011 she entered the Boston Viva La Diva Pageant and won the “Improv Solo To Live Music” category.
Ayleeza loves to teach the joy of dance to her students, using fun combos and props in her classes. In the April 2006 issue of “WESTCHESTER” magazine she was featured as a belly dance instructor. Ayleeza teaches at Dreaming Goddess in Poughkeepsie and through Lakeland Continuing Ed. in Shrub Oak, NY. Ayleeza’s hope is for the USA to see belly dancing as a spiritual, sensual and respected art form.
Ayleeza started her drum career in 1989 as a student of renowned author and musician Layne Redmond. Performing in Layne’s drum group “The Mob of Angels” from 89 to 1996. Layne introduced her to the ancient goddess figures dancing and drumming seen in the art of the old world. This strongly influenced Ayleeza to combine the spiritual goddess energy into her dancing and drumming.
Ayleeza is proud to be one of the drummers in the band “ISHTAR”. Using many of the frame drum Riqq techniques taught by her mentor Layne Redmond.
Ayleeza and Julian are seen frequently touring with Ishtar. In 2012, they toured the southern states with a big show in New Orleans. In 2014, played for a showcase in Anchorage, Alaska. This summer 2015, N.Y.C through the Hudson Valley, Boston and Montreal. Ayleeza has a great love for the music that Ishtar plays and is amazed at the growth of this dance and music community.
